Final Impact

Over the course of its work, Upcycled completed all planned projects with a focus on reducing plastic waste, engaging communities, and creating durable assets for shared public spaces. Through small-scale manufacturing, education, and outreach, post-consumer plastic was transformed into benches, garden beds, picnic tables, and other structures that were donated to schools, libraries, parks, and community organizations. In addition to physical infrastructure, Upcycled reached students, volunteers, and community members through workshops, afterschool programs, events, and cleanups. These efforts emphasized environmental stewardship, creativity, and local responsibility, helping participants better understand the impacts of plastic waste and the value of hands-on solutions. With all programs and deliverables now complete, Upcycled is formally concluding its operations. The impact of this work continues through the structures installed in community spaces, the partnerships built along the way, and the shared learning that will inform future environmental efforts led by others.

Meet the Team

CO-FOUNDERS

Orlando Goncalves (Left) and Alfred Striano (Right) began the mission of Upcycled Inc. in September of 2019. Since the start the two have built partnerships with manufacturing companies, local businesses, and residents with the goal to incorporate the organization as a non-profit. Prior to starting Upcycled Inc. the duo started an entertainment business hosting various events such as chili-cook offs, field days, bar crawls and trail clean-ups. The clean-ups quickly became a favorite and the focus of the company. Upon learning about the Precious Plastic community and the possibilities of recycling plastic the pair decided to switch paths and adopt the open-sourced process and start Upcycled Inc. with the mission of giving single-use plastic a long-term purpose!
